An Unusual Visitor

On Saturday, Em, Nana and I went on a quick shopping trip while Ben stayed back to catch up on some "landscaping chores". While trimming he noticed a turtle near the front wheel of the car...a little bit out of the ordinary as we are right in the village and his journey to arrive here had to have included traveling quite a distance and crossing some main streets with busy traffic.

When "the girls" arrived back from the store we were directed to a rubbermaid tote "tank" where the turtle was residing with some water and a large stone. After a brief visit, our guest seemed to be rather agitated and unhappy with his accomodations. We decided it was best to take him "home." So we found a pail for him to ride in, packed everyone up in the car and headed for Mill St. Pond to let him go free.

Though she was a bit sad that he couldn't stay, Em released him knowing that she was doing the right thing and making him "very happy"...here's to a good life at the pond, little guy!

P.S. While we were at the pond we had fun watching a pair of ducks and saw lots of pretty dragonflies.

Handcrafted and Spinning

Our Father’s Day activities took us on a trip to a local park for a ride on the “fastest carousel in the world”.

Today as I reflected on how much fun we’d had, my thoughts turned to the hand-carved animals and the “selection process” of choosing the perfect one to climb aboard for our rides…each so unique and so beautiful.

Then it hit me…how alike we are to those animals. Each crafted by the master’s hand…Each unique…Each beautiful.

Psalm 139:14 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful…”

As the carousel rotates, some horses go up and down, but each animal stands firmly in place on the platform. If we are willing to stand firm on our foundation and remain planted in faith, He bring us full circle through the ups and downs in this “merry-go-round of life” even when it seems to be spinning out of control at a rate we can’t keep up with.

2 Corinthians 1:14 “…because it is by faith you stand firm.”

The best part is that He doesn’t choose just one that strikes His fancy at that moment… He has chosen each and EVERY one of us and is holding the reins for the “ride of a lifetime” …are you ready to see where it takes you?

Happy Father's Day!!

Emily has the BEST daddy a little girl could wish for!!
Here's hoping that all the fathers out there enjoy their special day!

"Our Little Author"

Emily's class had an Author's Tea on Friday morning where they shared their stories with parents and grandparents...they all did a great job!

Here's a clip of our litte author reading "Mojo's Birthday"...

A Great Reminder...

A great story that reminds us that we CAN (and should) make a difference no matter how small it may be.

THE STARFISH
-by Loren Eiseley
Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.

One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach
and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up.

As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man,
and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean.

He came closer still and called out, “Good Morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”

The young man paused, looked up, and replied, “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”

“I must ask then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?” asked the somewhat startled wise man.

To this, the young man replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.”

Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, “But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish along every mile? You can’t possibly make a difference!”

At this, the young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said, “It made a difference for that one.”

Happy Birthday, Daddy! (Flashback)

Ben's first birthday as Emily's "Daddy"...both so happy!

A Happy Birthday

Yesterday was Ben's birthday so Em and I had plans to take him out for dinner. While we waited for him to get home from work, we spent some time thinking and discussing where he might like to go. He arrived home and announced that he wanted TGI Fridays...we hadn't even given that a thought! But, it was his day and it did sound good!

Just so happens that last night at TGI's there was a magician...so he got dinner & a show (right at the table)! Under strict orders we kept quiet about his birthday so the magician geared his performance towards Em...she loved it and we had lots of fun, too.

It was nice to celebrate...he's a great husband and a wonderful father and really deserves to be celebrated!

And the fun continues...
Tonight is birthday part 2. His mom is cooking his annual birthday dinner at her house!

Twirlin' in the Rain

Must be I've forgotten what my mother taught me about coming in out of the rain...in fact so much so that I purposely went out in the rain and took my own daughter with me.

After several days of extreme heat, some cool rain began to fall from the sky...I decided to take advantage of nature's sprinkler and make a memory with my daughter....

Mommy: "Want to go run in the rain with me?"
Emmy: "YEAH! I'll do it!"

So off we went...

Emmy: "Twirl with me Mommy!"

So we twirled in the rain until we were dizzy (and wet)!

Emmy: "How 'bout we go get our pjs and snuggle."
Mommy: "YEAH! Let's go!"

Pjs...Snuggles...and Bedtime stories...A GREAT night! :)

Flip Flop

One of the best things about summer is FLIP FLOPS! They're the ultimate combo of bare feet & footwear...protection and freedom... Even better they're cheap enough to have a pair in all different colors!! Love 'em!

UNwanted Guest

So Saturday morning I noticed a very unwelcome, unwanted guest making himself at home...

in the canopy of my porch swing...I think it is 'bout time for an EVICTION!!
My hospitality only goes so far!!

HOT!

The last few days have been HOT...upper 90s (nearing 100) and humid! UGH!

Some of the activity at our house during the heat wave:
Air conditioner made horrible noise and died 3:45 am Friday morning...
Shopping trip for new air conditioner...6:30 pm Friday evening...
Alternating periods of hot & sweaty daily tasks, hiding in the air conditioned bedroom and playing in the water. Gotta love slip n slide...

At one point Em stated, "thank God for Moms...and water!" Oh if I could have her innocence and cheery outlook...especially in this sweltering heat. She makes the best of a situation and usually ends up having lots of fun and truly enjoying the moment. I should follow her example a little more often!!

P.S. I did run through the sprinkler with her!!

The good life...

Her favorite "tunes" in her new mp3 player and some Memorial Day parade cotton candy...doesn't get much better than this!
